Especially when that wannabe has outsold you in Australia handily for years.
You don’t even beat Mitsubishi in that market... (and the Hilux outsells everything)
I’m pretty hyped about the Ranger, if Ford can get a base 2wd to $25k and a 4wd to $27k, then they’ll have Chevy whipped.

Chevy had the chance to win here and they blew it by making the Colorado 85% of a Silverado, not putting a small block in it (even if it was ZR2 and Denali exclusive) and making the diesel option crazy expensive, completely negating any fuel savings.
Ford seems to have it right, the Ranger looks significantly smaller than the F150 (because it is thank God!) and if they can find a diesel to put in it, any advantage the Colorado has is gone.

I think that Chevy’s problem is that simply upgrading from the base 2.5 4 banger and getting 4wd adds (I kid you not) $9k to the price of the truck...
$21k to $31k just to get a tolerable engine and 4x4. That’s complete insanity.

I think the jump is similar for a tacoma, but then toyota can just point to residual values too.

This is why I’m glad Ford has chosen a single engine and trans combo with the choice of 2wd or 4wd. No paying $10k just to get out of the penalty box.

***”on the road” refers to vehicles which have never been taken off-road. If you’ve suffered an issue after actually using your truck, too bad, our trucks are not off-road vehicles.

They have diesels, two of them a 2.2TDCi 158bhp in manual and auto and the 3.2TDCi 197bhp again in manual and auto.

The Ranger is a mid-sizer just like the Colorado, there is probably very little difference in size difference between a Colorado vs Silverado and Ranger vs F150.
In fact, here is a size comparison to the International Ranger, which is what the 2019 Ranger essentially is, to a F150 Raptor. They don’t look that much smaller.

‘So Edgy’.
This is Edgy, it’s the Edgy(e)ST.
What are Ford thinking about!?

I believe the issues are that the 2.2 is unimaginably small for the Americans and the 3.2 doesn’t comply with their emissions regs. If they get a diesel - and they probably won’t because that’s reserved for the more expensive F150 - it’ll be the 3.0 Jag unit.

They’re keeping that for the Americans because it won’t fit in with their marketing image here. ST is for light, sporty vehicles, not bloated crossovers.

The Ranger and Colorado are the same size, and are both mostly global platforms that have been Americanized.

The Hilux outsold the Ranger by only a couple of hundred vehicles last year in Oz. Also neither come with petrol engines except in the base 4x2 cab chassis version. Diesel only.
Frankly, having driven both, I wouldn’t buy either of them. The cheaper Triton or D-max are better value and the Amarok is a better package (just too expensive).

The Ranger doesn’t seem as tall as the Colorado but perhaps that’s because the Silverado isn’t as tall as the F150

Yeah, I don’t know who that base engine is for. Good luck finding one on the lots too
